You can

You can't

  • Sell or host it as a product that competes with NoteMinds.
  • Sublicense it under different terms.
  • Strip the copyright or license notices.
  • Distribute it without including this license alongside.
Two years from now, each released version becomes Apache 2.0 automatically. That's the FSL → Apache conversion: the source you read today will be permissively licensed two years after its release date, with no further action from us. If we disappear, the project lives.

AbbreviationFSL-1.1-ALv2 NoticeCopyright 2026 NoteMinds Licensor: NoteMinds PurposeThis license allows you to use and modify the software for any Permitted Purpose other than a Competing Use, and ensures that the software becomes available under an open source license after two years. AcceptanceIn order to receive this license, you must agree to its rules. The rules of this license are both obligations under that agreement and conditions to your license. You must not do anything with the software that triggers a rule that you cannot or will not follow. Permitted PurposeA Permitted Purpose is any purpose other than a Competing Use. A Competing Use means use of the software in or for a commercial product or service that competes with the software or any other product or service the Licensor offers using the software. Permitted Purposes specifically include, without limitation: 1. internal use and modification of the software by individuals or legal entities; 2. distribution of the software for non-commercial purposes (for example, for research, educational, or evaluation purposes); 3. professional services that use the software, such as consulting, support, training, or hosted internal deployments for a single customer, so long as the services do not compete with the Licensor's products or services. NoticesYou must ensure that anyone who gets a copy of any part of the software from you also gets a copy of these terms, the copyright notice, and any additional notices delivered with the software. If you modify the software, you must include in any modified copies of the software prominent notices stating that you have modified the software. RedistributionThe Permitted Purpose does not include making the software available to third parties as a commercial product or service. Changes and New Works, Recipients, and SublicensingIf you make changes or new works based on the software, you may use those changes or new works only for a Permitted Purpose and only under the terms of this license. Future LicenseOn the second anniversary of the date the software is first made available under this license (the "Change Date"), the software automatically becomes available under the Apache License, Version 2.0 (the "Future License"). For each released version of the software, the Change Date is two years after the date that version was first made available under this license. After the Change Date, you may continue to use the software under this license, or you may use it under the Future License. TerminationIf you violate the terms of this license, the license terminates automatically. If the Licensor provides you with notice of a violation and you cure the violation within 30 days of the notice, your license is reinstated.
